As the NAIT Ooks women's basketball team are preparing to battle the conference's best at the ACAC Provincial Championships, claiming second in the north division to put them in a good spot for playoffs.
With head coach Kiera Lyons leading the way, the Ooks head into the tournament as the underdogs, using it as motivation and fuel as they aim to make a statement. "Focusing too far down the road only adds unnecessary pressure, so we stay locked in on what's within our control and keep our attention on the task at hand", Coach Lyons stated.
That approach has played a key role, navigating the Ooks through challenges. The experiences and growth they've gained along the way have ultimately defined the way they're preparing for the championship tournament.
With only a few days away, the Ooks have raised the bar in practice, making competitive intensity a central focus. The coaching staff continues to stress the value of challenging one another daily, building the resilience and edge needed to thrive in the pressure-packed atmosphere that awaits them.
"If our practices are gonna be more intense to build us for the game, then we are preparing in the right ways", she stated.
Entering the tournament, the Ooks carry confidence in their ability to meet the moment head-on. Grounded in trust, toughness, and a commitment to staying present, they're prepared to embrace the challenge. The Ooks will face the St Mary's Lightning on March 5th in the quarter finals, hosted by Briarcrest. Go Ooks!
