NAIT Badminton: 2025 Season Preview
October 18, 2025
As the new badminton season approaches, the NAIT Ooks are setting their sights on more than just medals. They're building a culture rooted in unity, growth, and purpose. Head Coach Alan Chow enters the year with a clear vision: to bring the team together, have fun, and make the season one to remember.
"Even though badminton is often seen as an individual sport, we focus heavily on team culture," the coach explained. "NAIT has always had strong teams, and this year our goal is to compete for team gold, win provincials, and perform well at nationals."
A great mindset supports the team, explaining that the program's philosophy centers on developing confident, adaptable athletes who compete with purpose and passion. They focus on effort, attitude, and continuous growth on and off the court.
The mentality is not the only aspect that highlights in the team. The players are the base and key to achieving all their goals.
This season's roster stands out as one of the most balanced in recent years. The Ooks feature a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers who bring fresh energy and skill to the court. Head coach Chow adds, "We have experienced returners alongside new student-athletes who are already showing great potential and commitment."
Among the amazing roster that the team has, some athletes are expected to lead this season
Matthew Wong, one of Alberta's top U19 juniors and among the best in Canada, brings national-level experience and poise.
Ethan Lee, who has both played and coached in Korea, adds an international perspective and a wealth of technical knowledge.
That immense talent would be needed to confront the biggest challenge expected for this season. The ACAC and CCAA are filled with powerhouse programs, and every match will test their endurance. Each tournament brings a new opponent that will test the ability, with an opportunity for them to grow. This will complement the quiet confidence that runs through the group.
With a deep roster, strong leadership, and a shared commitment to excellence, the Ooks enter the season ready to compete at the highest level. Their unity, effort, and belief in each other are going to be their best ally and crucial for their success.
