The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team is gearing up for an exciting season with the addition of 11 new recruits to the roster. With a mix of local talent and players from across Western Canada, the incoming class brings depth, speed, and experience to the team as they prepare for puck drop on Friday, October 3rd at home against the Olds College Broncos.
Joining the blue and gold this season are:
- Maria Ayre – A transfer from MacEwan University, Ayre hails from Fort St. John, BC, and brings post-secondary experience to the Ooks lineup.
- Chelsey Francis-Barrow – From Fort McMurray, AB, Francis-Barrow developed her game with the St. Albert Sharks.
- Daynia de Champlain – The Legal, AB native most recently played for OHA Edmonton, showcasing strong two-way play.
- Alyssa Tremblay-Houle – Representing Edmonton, AB, Tremblay-Houle joins the Ooks from the SPKAC Reign program.
- Chloe Higgins – A dynamic player from Calgary, AB, Higgins spent last season with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs.
- Madison Teague – Teague returns to Edmonton after competing at the collegiate level with Lindenwood University.
- Brielle Banton – From Port Alberni, BC, Banton played for the North Shore Warriors and adds a strong presence on the ice.
- Isabella Roppo – A product of the Edmonton-based Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), Roppo brings high-performance experience to the roster.
- Claire Laplante – Hailing from Okotoks, AB, Laplante skated with the Rocky Mountain Raiders and is known for her steady play.
- Allison McGregor – Also from Okotoks, McGregor rounds out the group of southern Alberta recruits after playing for Calgary Fire Black.
- Mignon Helberg – A standout from Rossland, BC, Helberg comes to NAIT after competing with the Thompson Okanagan Lakers.
With a strong returning core and an energized group of new players, the Ooks are looking to make a statement in the ACAC this season. The team opens their regular season at home on Friday, October 3rd against the Olds College Broncos.
