The NAIT Ooks men's volleyball team took home silver in the ACAC Men's Volleyball Final Four Championship. This was the first time in modern history that the men's volleyball team had made it to the ACAC Championship final. It was an unbelievable accomplishment for the team and the program. Although they didn't come out victorious and secure a spot in the CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship, the season was still filled with incredible milestones.
Some of the significant milestones include earning the right to host the ACAC Men's Volleyball Final Four Championship, the Ooks having four players named to the ACAC all-conference team, and Shae McIntyre being named the north player of the year. The gym was electric all weekend.
Head Coach Jordan Taylor said, "it was an incredible atmosphere. To play both the ACAC semi-final and final at home in the NAIT gym in front of our fans was an amazing experience for both players and coaches. The support we received this weekend from our community within NAIT, our Ooks Alumni, and the greater YEG volleyball community was outstanding."
The Ooks may be done for this season, but next season is right around the corner, says Taylor, "the vast majority of our current team will be back next year, so we expect to be just as competitive, if not better. We entered this season with minimal playoff experience on our roster, but we got that this year. This playoff run will pay dividends for years to come for our young group. The future is bright here at NAIT."
Taylor also wanted to give a special shoutout to the team captain Winston Voogd, "he was our only senior graduating this year and has played his final game as an OOK. His leadership and steadiness were often leaned upon this year, and any future success this team has doesn't happen without the road he paved and the culture he helped cultivate in his five years at NAIT as a student-athlete."
Congratulations to the team for their outstanding season.
