Kuželová Named Player Of The Year, Slator Named Rookie Of The Year

EDMONTON, AB (March 8, 2019) – Verča Kuželová was named ACAC women's hockey Player of the Year, while Kaitlyn Slator earned Rookie of the Year honours as part of the All-Conference awards. The Ooks also had several players named were named to the All-Conference teams as well as two players who achieved Academic All-Canadian honours.

Verča Kuželová - Player of the Year

Verča Kuželová led the NAIT Ooks to a 19-2-3 record and first place finish in the ACAC women's hockey regular season standings. Kuželová led the ACAC in scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for a total of 26 points in 24 games. On top of offensive ability, Verča has proven to be pretty durable as well; she holds the ACAC record for most regular season games played in ACAC women's hockey history with 116.

Verča has been a dynamic player for us all season long. She continuously finds different ways to score, making her such an exciting player to watch. Her relentless puck pursuit has been huge for us this season. She's the type of player that I wouldn't want to play against," said NAIT head coach, Stef Thomson.

Verča is a fifth-year business administration student from Prague, Czech Republic.

Kaitlyn Slator - Rookie of the Year

Kaitlyn Slator backstopped the NAIT Ooks to a first-place finish in the regular season standings with a 19-2-3 record where she played every game. Slator sits second in the league in both GAA (1.62) and SV% (.933), Slator also set a new ACAC record this year for most saves in a season (570).

Slator is one of the calmest people and goalies that I've seen at the college level. I feel her calm demeanor carries over to the rest of the team in a positive way.  It's hard to believe that with the way she has played that she is only a first-year," said NAIT head coach, Stef Thomson

Kaitlyn is a first-year Personal Fitness Trainor student from Brandon, Manitoba.
