Ooks Face Trojans In Semifinal

EDMONTON, ALTA. – The NAIT Ooks men's hockey team will open up their 2019 ACAC playoff run this weekend as they take on the SAIT Trojans in game one of the best of three semifinal series.

The Ooks come into the series after receiving a bye through the quarter-finals for finishing first in the regular season standings with a 20-7-0-1 record. NAIT is led by third-year forward, Jake Mykitiuk who sits fourth in league scoring with 34 points. NAIT is backstopped by Brendan Jensen who currently sits second in the league in both GAA (2.08) and SV% (.931).

"The season overall went well however we look back at 3-4 games where we didn't play to our standard but we still finished first, and when that happens the team has done more right than wrong," said NAIT head coach, Tim Fragle.

The SAIT Trojans enter the series after defeating the Augustana Vikings 2-1 in a best of three series last weekend. They finished the regular season with a 17-10-1-0 record, good enough for fifth in the ACAC. SAIT is led by fourth-year forward, Dean Allison who leads the league in scoring with 38 points.

"SAIT is a team that can score, they have some elite talent with strong goaltending and compete extremely hard," said Fragle.

The Ooks won the regular season series taking 3 of 4 games against the Trojans.  They will be hoping to continue that trend as they look to win the best of three series and advance to the ACAC Championship for the eighth straight season. However, Fragle recognizes that playoffs are much different than the regular season.

"We need to play our game to have success in the playoffs. We need to take it one game at a time regardless of win or a loss in the previous game."
